Men's patterns tend not to be of the "run 'em up on the sewing machine in two hours" type thing. Yeah, you can do that, but it will never look like what you want.
We are so used to sewing in the flat on a machine that we expect patterns to fit together like jigsaw puzzles. But in tailoring, particularly historical tailoring, garments are build in three dimensions, layer by layer. This often means that the paper doesn't appear to "fit".
