19th Century Sensible Stays & Gestation Stays

PP705PP705

Another great historical corset pattern with instructions for three styles of 19th century stays (corsets).

Multi-sized pattern with historical notes and traditional sewing instructions.

View A is described as 'Sensible Stays' and has no boning or busk just cording at the centre back to stabilise the eyelet area. This may have been designed for young girls and the elderly as unboned stays are rare.

These would be good for someone wishes to have figure support without boning, perhaps under workwear.

This design has shoulder straps and will bring the bosom high and full at underarm level.

Correct for the period 1830-1860.

View B is another Sensible Stay for the period 1820-1840. This is a soft stay suiting the late Regency early Victorian empire line style of dress. The shoulder straps do not show when these stays are worn with the fashionable wide necklines.

Unboned this corset relies on good construction and pattern plus sturdy fabrics to keep the figure in check.

View C Is a gestation stay featuring laced gussets at bust and hip allowing adjustment for all stages of pregnancy.

This fascinating garment is unboned but still sturdy and can be made with nursing gussets which would have permitted breast feeding.

The front is reinforced and finished with buttons.

All 3 of these stays whilst unboned do still alter the figure and will stop the wearer going uncorseted and risk being labelled a 'loose woman'.
