Spiral Wire Continuous
Continuous Spiral Wire
This is endless (well almost..) Spiral Wire that we can cut to any length so that you can cut whatever size of wire you need for your project.
Spiral wire bends in two directions so use this on curvy seams particularly in the bust area.
Cutting the wire requires a fairly hefty pair of pincers, pliers or side cutters or our heavy duty wire cutters. When chopping this wire to length only cut through one single loop of wire at a time.
*Another method of cutting the wire is to..... "rest the bone on a smooth housebrick and use a great fat chisel. One whack with a lump hammer cuts it cleanly and accurately. I cut 8 bones in under 3 minutes this morning using this technique, every one perfect! This my be useful if any other beginners find themselves struggling with this!"
Thanks to Jen Adams for this great tip.
We would recommend that you use eye protection whichever method you adopt!
Don't forget to order some End Caps to cover the cut ends, they can be very sharp. We have metal end caps for all 3 sizes and plastic stitchable end caps for the 11mm size.
If you are going to be making a lot of spiral wires why not invest in a Eyelet and End Cap Setting Press?I You an choose the press the set of dies for the spiral wires you are making.
The 7mm wire is generally assumed to be the "standard size" for corsetry and bodices, however, we also stock a very hefty 11mm spiral wire that adds a really curvy, firm support and a delicate 5mm wire.
Thanks to Sheelagh for sharing this creative alternative for finishing the raw ends. She suggests '"cover the ends with a little bit of sculpy clay(like Fimo), and bake in the usual way. It worked a treat, lovely and smooth, without adding bulk, and stuck fast!"
